The Hanoon Foundation is pleased to have supported Mohammed’s attendance at the American College of Surgeons Clinical Congress 2024, held in October in San Francisco, USA. His abstract on general surgery was accepted for oral presentation as part of our SCALPEL project, which assesses surgical capacity in Palestine.
Mohammed has led this project in Gaza, and this year he presented its findings at the ACS Clinical Congress. Attending such a prestigious conference marks an important milestone in his career and provides a valuable opportunity to highlight Palestinian surgical expertise on the international stage.
This opportunity was generously funded by The Galilee Foundation.

“I am sincerely grateful to the Hanoon Foundation for their generous support in covering my travel and accommodation, which allowed me to present my research on surgical capacity evaluation in Palestine at the American College of Surgeons Clinical Congress 2024.
This opportunity was especially meaningful as it provided a platform to shed light on the significant disparities within Gaza’s surgical care system. I emphasised the urgent need for international collaboration to improve access to surgical care in Palestine, particularly in Gaza, where the ongoing war continues to severely impact healthcare delivery.
Thanks to the Hanoon Foundation, I was able to not only share our findings but also connect with global professionals and raise awareness of these critical challenges. Their support has been invaluable, and I am deeply appreciative of their commitment to empowering Palestinian medical students and professionals and fostering sustainable improvements in our healthcare system.”
