As part of his annual medical studies project, one of The Hanoon Foundation’s sponsored medical students volunteered at Abu Al-Hassan Al-Qasim Hospital in the Hebron Governorate, gaining early exposure to patient care and the hospital environment. Reflecting on this experience, he notes that “communication and simple attention can leave a significant impact on the recovery journey”, highlighting the importance of compassion and human connection in medical practice.
Below, the student shares his reflection on his volunteering experience, along with his photos.
As part of our medical studies, we learned about the importance of caring for and attending to the patient. Based on that, my colleague and I volunteered at Abu Al-Hassan Al-Qasim Hospital in Hebron Governorate to contribute to patient care and to enhance my research and clinical skills, as I am in the basic stage of medicine, meaning that I have not worked in a hospital environment yet. Also, one of my main goals in this work is to build teamwork capabilities by cooperating with healthcare professionals and other volunteers.
By volunteering at the hospital, I seek to support patient care by providing support and encouragement that will ease the difficulty of the treatment period. Communication and simple attention can leave a significant impact on the recovery journey. At the same time, I aspire to develop my personality, so that I learn to be more aware of the feelings of others and more capable of truly appreciating their human needs.
