Professor Colin Green

Professor Colin Green (1935–2026) was a pioneering medical scientist, educator and humanitarian whose vision helped shape medical education in Palestine and beyond. He was one of the founders of the Foundation for Al-Quds University Medical School (FQMS), the organisation that later became The Hanoon Foundation.

Over a distinguished academic career spanning more than five decades, Professor Green made major contributions to transplantation science, surgical research, tissue regeneration and medical innovation. He held senior positions at leading research institutions, including the Medical Research Council, the Clinical Research Centre and University College London, and authored more than 500 scientific publications. His work contributed to advances in organ transplantation and helped improve patient care.

Alongside his scientific achievements, Professor Green was deeply committed to medical education, international collaboration and humanitarian work. He founded the International Medical Education Trust 2000 (IMET2000), which supported medical education, research and healthcare programmes across Palestine, Eastern Europe, Africa and Asia.

Professor Green’s commitment to Palestine spanned more than four decades. He began working in Palestine in 1984 as an early and active member of Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP). In 1994, he helped establish the first Palestinian Faculty of Medicine at Al-Quds University and later helped create FQMS to support its development. He remained a dedicated advocate for Palestinian medical students, graduates and medical schools throughout his life. In recognition of his contributions, he was awarded the Palestinian Millennium Medal in 2002.

His belief in the power of education, partnership and opportunity continues to inspire The Hanoon Foundation’s work today. Professor Green’s legacy lives on through the institutions he helped build, the generations of healthcare professionals he supported, and his enduring contribution to medical education in Palestine.
